How to use sub-Timelines to organize complex Timelines

Using sub-timelines makes it easy to organise related events in a structured way on your main timeline. Whether starting a new sub-timeline or moving existing events, these steps allow you to keep complex timelines clear and manageable.

Sub-timelines help break down intricate details, allowing you to organise and track progress without cluttering your main timeline. This feature is perfect for structuring timelines into smaller, manageable segments – ideal for managing multiple tasks, events, or case milestones simultaneously. Here’s how you can create sub-timelines:

Approach 1: Start a new sub-Timeline at a specific point

  • In your main timeline, find the spot between two existing events where you want to begin a new sub-timeline.
  • Move your cursor between the two events, just below the timeline. A fork icon will appear beneath the "+" icon.
  • Click the fork icon to create a new sub-timeline in this position. You can now add events to this sub-timeline as needed.

Approach 2: move existing events to a sub-Timeline

  • Look for the Move-Handle icon below an event you want to relocate to a sub-timeline.

  • Click the Move-Handle icon. This action will reveal additional Move-Handles at various positions along the timeline.

  • Hover over the Move-Handle at your preferred location. You’ll see two options:

    • Attach horizontally: Position the event in line with other events on the same timeline level.
    • Attach downwards: Position the event below the main timeline, creating a new sub-timeline if necessary.

Once you’ve chosen the desired position, click to confirm. Your event will be moved to the selected location
