Ask JuristIQ about the tool you have open
An answer about, or a change to, the structure, timeline, board or insight in front of you, from the JuristIQ side panel.
Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 2 November 2026.
You are in the middle of the work: the group chart for Project Alpha, the chronology of the dispute with Beta Holding A/S, the closing checklist. A question comes up about what is on the screen. Who owns Gamma ApS? What is still open before closing? When was notice first given? Open JuristIQ beside the work and ask, without leaving it.
Two questions decide how you use the panel. Do you want an answer, or a change? And is what you have open enough, or does the question need the documents behind it too?
Open JuristIQ beside the work
Open the structure, timeline, board or insight, and click the JuristIQ button (the sparkle icon; its tooltip reads JuristIQ). In a timeline, a board or an insight it sits in the toolbar; in a structure it sits with the controls on the canvas.
The panel opens on the right. JuristIQ already knows which structure, timeline, board or insight you have open, so you do not attach it. If you have asked about this one before, the panel reopens your last chat about it, and its start page lists your recent chats about it.
Drag the left edge of the panel to widen it, up to half the screen, when an answer has a table or a long list in it.
Click the new-chat icon at the top of the panel (New chat) to start a clean conversation, and the cross (Close) to hide the panel again.
Ask about what is on the screen
Type the question as you would put it to a colleague who has the same screen in front of them, and press Enter.
You have open Ask about it Ask for a change A structure "Which companies does Beta Holding A/S own directly, and with what share?" "Add Gamma ApS as a wholly owned subsidiary of Beta Holding A/S." A timeline "Check the notice dates across this chronology and flag anything that needs a second look." "Tag every event involving Delta Bank A/S with Financing, and make a story for those events." A board "What is still open before closing, and who owns each item?" "Add a task for the board minutes under Signing." An insight "Which agreements have a change of control clause?" "Add a column for the governing law." In a structure, select the entities you mean on the canvas before you ask. JuristIQ receives your selection and the slide you are on with the question, so "these three companies" means what you have selected.
In a timeline, your request can cover swimlanes, tags, people and stories as well as events. For example, ask JuristIQ to change a story's filters or the chronology's date format as part of preparing a version for counsel.
When the question needs more than what is on the screen, such as the case documents behind a timeline, add them with the plus button under the question box: Connections for the matter's documents and its other timelines and boards, or Upload files for documents you have in hand. Ask JuristIQ about the matter's documents explains both.
To stop an answer that is going the wrong way, click the stop button where the send button was, and rephrase.
Follow the work in the chat
Click the step count above the answer to see what JuristIQ has done. The action rows name the work, such as Read the events, Edited the timeline, Edited the board or Added to the structure, and show a row count where there is one. Web searches appear there too. Click an action row to see its detail; for a command, Show output opens the returned lines.
When JuristIQ starts a background job, follow the progress row above the question box. It names the current step and shows a percentage when the job reports how much is done. You can keep working and continue the conversation while it runs.
Read the answer that follows the completion notice. The notice is a system line in the conversation, and JuristIQ's answer below it explains the result. Check the events or other work it points to before relying on the result.
Let JuristIQ make the change
Ask for the change in plain words. JuristIQ makes it in the structure, timeline, board or insight you have open.
Before JuristIQ deletes something, such as an event, a task or a company on the chart, it shows a card listing what it is about to remove. Nothing is deleted until you confirm on the card.
In a structure, a larger job comes first as a plan: a title and the steps JuristIQ intends to take. Read the steps, then click Approve plan to let it go ahead, or Reject and rephrase what you want.
Where a step of the plan can be done in more than one way, JuristIQ stops and shows the options under Choose an option. Click the one that fits the matter, or Decline plan if none does; nothing is carried out for that step.
Check the result on the screen before you move on, as you would check a trainee's mark-up. When JuristIQ creates slides, the structure canvas moves to each new slide as it arrives so you can follow it being built.
Pick up work JuristIQ started elsewhere
When you ask on the main JuristIQ page and JuristIQ creates or copies a structure, timeline, board or insight for you, the answer ends with a card such as Go to insight. Click it to open what JuristIQ made, then click the JuristIQ button there to keep working on it beside the screen.
Tips from practice
- The button is greyed out. JuristIQ is not part of your access here: the firm has not given you JuristIQ, or you see the work through limited access, such as a timeline shared outside the firm. Ask your admins.
- Check the sources before you rely on an answer. An answer drawn from the documents carries citations; check JuristIQ's answer against its sources before it goes into advice.
- Reuse the good questions. A question the team asks of every closing board belongs in the Prompt Bank: see save prompts the team reuses.
- Drawing a whole chart from a description is its own task: see draw a structure from a description.
Next: ask JuristIQ about the matter's documents when the question is about the file rather than the tool, or draft a memo from the matter's documents.
