Set up company chart imports for the firm

Register imports drawn with the firm's own elements for companies, people, directors and ownership lines.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.

When a lawyer imports a group from the company register, Juristic draws every company, owner and director as a box and every holding as a line. Out of the box it uses Juristic's own elements. If the firm has its own way of drawing a group (a Company box, a Person box, the house ownership line), you can make the import use those, so an imported chart looks like one the team drew by hand and needs no restyling before it goes to the client.

The question that decides the setup is which of the firm's elements stands for each role in a register extract: the companies, the owners who are not companies, the people, the directors, and the lines between them.

Put the firm's elements in the Firm-wide Library

The import can only use elements and relationships from the Firm-wide Library.

  1. Open Admin panel from your user menu, and under Templates choose Libraries. Open the Firm-wide Library and check that it has an element for each role and a relationship for the ownership line and the directorship line. Add any that are missing. How to set them up is in set up the group's elements and relationship types and keep the firm's templates in shared libraries.

Choose an element for each role

  1. In the Admin panel, under Tool defaults, choose Structure.

  2. On the Company chart defaults card, click Edit beside Element roles.

  3. For each role, click the field and pick from the firm-wide library. Each option shows a small preview of the element or line.

Role What the import draws with it
Company Every company in the register extract
Other participant Owners that are not companies, such as foreign owners and foundations
Person Individual owners
Directors Directors and board members. Left empty, the import reuses a director or owner element the firm already has
Ownership The ownership lines between owners and the companies they hold
Directorship The lines connecting directors to their company
  1. Click Save. The next import from the register uses these elements; charts already imported keep theirs.

Any other role you leave empty is drawn with Juristic's own element for it.

When a matter has its own element

If a matter already has its own element with the same name as the one you picked, an import in that matter uses the matter's element. A client team that draws the client's companies its own way keeps that look, and every other matter gets the firm's.

Go back to Juristic's elements

Open Edit beside Element roles again and click Reset to system defaults. The next import is drawn with Juristic's own elements. The button appears once company chart defaults or a Default relationship have been saved, and the reset clears the Default relationship for new lines as well, so pick that line again afterwards if the firm uses one.

Tips from practice

  • Name elements as the lawyers say them. The import looks the elements up by name in each matter, so a firm-wide Company element and a matter's own Company element are treated as the same thing. Keep the names the team already uses.
  • Pick the line for every new line too. The Default relationship on the same page decides how lines drawn by hand look. Choosing the same ownership line in both places keeps imported and hand-drawn parts of a chart alike; see give new structure elements the firm's look.
  • Test with a group you know. Import a well-known group with a few owners and directors into a test matter, and check each role before telling the corporate team.

The lawyers' side of the import is in import a group from the company register.
