Find out who changed what
The change history of a structure, timeline, board, matter or group, with who and when.
Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.
A holding on the chart is not what you remember, an event has moved in the chronology, or the client asks when the disclosure letter was marked as sent. Before you ask round the team, the activity log answers it: every change to the work, with the person who made it and when.
One question decides where you look. Is it about one piece of work, or the matter as a whole? Each structure, timeline and task board keeps its own log; the matter and the client group keep one across their work.
On a structure or timeline
Open the structure or timeline and click the history icon (Activity Log) at the top right, beside the speech bubble and Share. On a structure that shows a ribbon of tabs, it is under Collaborate.
The Activity Log opens at the side, newest change first. Each entry says what changed, who changed it and how long ago.
Where many changes were made together, the entry reads, for example, "12 changes relating to" the elements concerned. Click the underlined number of changes to see each one.
Click More at the bottom to load older changes.
On a task board
Open the board's Activity log view: the changes to its tasks, columns and the board itself, grouped by day under Today, Yesterday and the dates before. If the board has no Activity log tab, add the view; see give each workstream its own view.
For the history of one task, open the task (click the speech bubble beside its name) and choose Activity log: a new owner, a status change, a moved date.
Click More at the bottom to load older changes.
On the matter or the client group
Open the matter. The Activity log widget on the overview shows recent activity across the matter. Only managers of the matter have it; a manager adds it to the overview under Edit matter layout, see set up the matter's front page.
Narrow it with the tabs at the top: All, or the icons for the matter itself, its structures, its timelines and its blocks (point at an icon to see which). Page through with the arrows at the bottom, and choose how many rows to show.
On a client group's page, the group's admins see the same Activity Log beside the list of matters.
Where to look
| Your question | Where |
|---|---|
| Who moved this box or changed this holding? | Activity Log on the structure |
| Who changed this event, or when was it added? | Activity Log on the timeline |
| When was this task marked done, and by whom? | Activity log on the task |
| What has happened on the deal checklist this week? | The board's Activity log view |
| What has the team done on the matter since I was last in it? | The Activity log widget on the matter overview |
Tips from practice
- Check before you ask. The log tells you who made a change; ask that person why, rather than the whole team.
- Show the client when a step was done. The board's Activity log gives the date a task changed status, which answers "when did this go out?" without searching your inbox.
- The log records, it does not undo. To reverse a change, change it back in the work; the log then shows both.
- Firm-wide security events are elsewhere. Sign-ins, access changes and other events across the whole organisation are in the audit log, which your administrators use; see check the firm's audit trail.
