Choose how Structure opens for new users
New users open Structure in the toolbar layout and on the canvas that suit the firm's charts.

A lawyer's first group chart in Juristic goes better when the tool looks like what they know. Most of the firm draws charts in PowerPoint today, so a ribbon like Office's and a canvas the size of a slide feel familiar from the first minute. As an organisation admin, you choose the view every new user starts with, before you invite a new team or roll Structure out to a practice group.
Two questions decide it. Are the new users used to Office, or do they want the most room for the chart? And do their charts mostly end up on slides?
Set the starting view
Open Admin panel from your user menu, and under Tool defaults choose Structure. The page is there when the firm has Structure.
On the Starting view for new users card, choose the Toolbar layout. Traditional gives an Office-style ribbon with tabs; Modern gives the compact Structure toolbar, with more of the screen for the chart.
Turn Start on the PowerPoint canvas on to have new users open Structure on the slide canvas, which shows the slide area the PowerPoint export uses. Turn it off to start them on the infinite canvas, an open canvas without edges.
Each change is saved as soon as you make it. Out of the box, new users start with Traditional on the PowerPoint canvas.
| The new users | Toolbar layout | Start on the PowerPoint canvas |
|---|---|---|
| Lawyers who draw charts in PowerPoint today | Traditional | On: they see at once what fits on the slide |
| A transaction team mapping out large groups before anything goes on slides | Modern | Off: the infinite canvas has room for the whole group |
| A mix | Traditional | On, and show them how to switch |
What the setting changes
The starting view applies to users who start using Juristic after you set it. Users who have already signed in keep the view they have. Every user can switch their own layout and canvas afterwards in the canvas controls of any structure; see set up the Structure canvas the way you work.
Tips from practice
- Set it before the invitations go out. The setting only reaches users who have not yet signed in, so choose the view first and invite the team afterwards; see bring a whole team into Juristic.
- Teach the switch, not the setting. In the first training session, show where the layout and canvas are changed. Lawyers who prefer the other view change it in seconds.
- Match the firm's output. If almost every chart ends up in a client deck, starting on the PowerPoint canvas saves charts that turn out too wide for the slide.
