Bring your team into the matter

The right colleagues on the matter as Manager or Member, and the people who have left the team taken off.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.

You are running the matter. Colleagues have been staffed on it, a trainee needs in before a meeting, or someone has moved to other work. Who is on the matter decides who can open the client's file, so keep the list as current as the team.

Two questions decide the settings below. Who runs the matter with you? They are Managers. Who works in it? They are Members.

Add colleagues

  1. Open the matter and click the row of avatars at the top right of its overview (Click to view and manage members). Share and then Internal opens the same list, as does the pencil (Edit access) that appears when you point at the Users box.

  2. The top list, Collaborators, shows who is on the matter now. Below it, find the colleague by name or email and click Invite. They join as a Member and can open everything in the matter straight away.

  3. Colleague not on Juristic yet? When the search finds no one, enter their Full name and work Email and click Invite. Only addresses on your own firm's email domain are accepted. Juristic creates their user and emails them a link to the matter.

Give each person the right role

  1. Click the role next to a colleague and choose Manager or Member. Only Managers see these controls.

Role What they can do on the matter
Manager Everything a Member can, and change roles, take people off and edit the matter's layout. When the matter is set to Only managers can delete resources, only Managers can delete work in it.
Member Work in every structure, timeline, board and insight in the matter, and invite colleagues

Make at least one other senior lawyer a Manager, so the matter is never locked to one person who is away.

Take people off

  1. Tick everyone who has left the team and click Remove selected; the number in brackets counts the people ticked. Select all ticks everyone but you. To take off one person, click their role and choose Remove.

  2. To take yourself off as a Manager, click your own role and choose Leave. The last Manager on a matter cannot leave; make someone else a Manager first. A Member who should come off asks one of the matter's Managers.

Check the group's access

  1. Open the matter's group and click Edit Group to see how it hands out its matters. Only the group's Managers can change this.

The group Choose What it means
A practice team, where everyone works on everything Unrestricted access Everyone in the group is on all its matters, without being added one by one
A client, or matters with confidential work Restricted access People see a matter only once they are added to it, matter by matter

Tips from practice

  • Sharing one piece of work shares the matter. When you share a single timeline or structure with a colleague through Share and Internal, they gain access to the whole matter. To keep work from someone on the team, file it in a matter of its own. See share your work with a colleague.
  • Leavers from the firm. Taking someone off a matter is for changes in staffing. When a lawyer leaves the firm, your admins offboard them from Juristic as a whole.
  • People outside the firm. Clients and other advisers are not added here: give the client access to the matter instead.

Before this: open a matter for new work. Next: start from your firm's templates.
