Describe uploaded documents automatically

An AI-written description for every document uploaded by a user with AI access.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.

A matter collects documents fast, and a title such as "Scan_0412.pdf" or "SPA v7 (clean)" tells a colleague little about what is inside. A one or two sentence description does: what the document is, who the parties are and what it is for. Rather than leave it to each lawyer to write one, an organisation admin can have Juristic write it with AI the moment a document is uploaded.

One question decides whether to turn it on. Does the firm want AI to read every document its AI users upload? The description is written by the AI provider the firm has chosen, from the whole document.

Turn on automatic descriptions

  1. Click Admin panel at the bottom of the sidebar. You see it if you are an admin of your organisation.

  2. Under AI, click Automation.

  3. In the Documents card, turn on Generate descriptions for uploaded documents. The setting is saved at once and applies to the whole organisation.

What happens from then on

  • Only new uploads. Each document uploaded after you turn it on gets a description. Documents already in Juristic are left as they are, and a description is never written over one that is already there, including one a lawyer typed in.
  • Only for users with AI access. The description is written when the person who uploads the document has access to the AI tools. A document uploaded by someone without it gets none.
  • In the uploader's language. The description is written in the language the uploader has set for Juristic, so a Danish-speaking associate's uploads are described in Danish. See set your name, initials and language.
  • Readable documents only. Juristic describes PDFs, Office files, emails and images. A file the firm's AI provider cannot read is left without a description.
  • It goes in the Description field. The text lands in the document's Description, where anyone who can edit the document can correct or replace it. When a document is attached to a question to JuristIQ, its description goes with it.

Describing documents by hand

With the setting off, or for a document uploaded before it was on, a user with AI access can still have a description written for one document. Open the document's details and click the sparkle button in the Description field (its tooltip reads Generate description with AI). The description appears in the field for them to check before saving.

Tips from practice

  • Check where the AI runs first. Every description means the document is read by the firm's AI provider. If that matters for the firm's clients, settle it under choose where the firm's AI runs before you turn this on.
  • Tell the team. Lawyers who see descriptions appear on their uploads will want to know where they come from and that they can edit them. An announcement does it in one go.
  • Descriptions are a starting point. A description says what the document is, not what it means for the matter. Lawyers should still read the document before relying on it.

Next, give JuristIQ the firm's own conventions with standing instructions.
