Give the client access to the matter

The client invited to the matter with everything, or only the boards, timelines, structures and insights you choose.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.

The client wants to follow the matter without waiting for the next status email: the general counsel on a transaction who ticks off their own conditions, or the board of a group company that wants to see the chronology before the meeting. You invite them to the matter, and they open it in their browser.

Two questions decide the choices below. What should the client see? Everything in the matter, or only some of it. Should they only read, or also work in it?

Invite the client

  1. Open the matter and click Share at the top of its overview. Under Choose how you want to share, choose External.

  2. In Share matter with a client, enter the client's First name, Last name and Email. Phone (optional) can stay empty. The email address is the one they sign in with, so use their work address.

  3. Choose the Client view. Standard client gives them full access to everything in the matter: every board, timeline, structure and insight, with editing allowed. A client view set up for this kind of client, such as "Lender" or "Board of Beta Holding A/S", gives them the access that view sets by default. See decide what clients see on a matter.

Pick exactly what they get

  1. To choose item by item for this client, turn on the Advanced switch below the client view. The matter's work is listed under Task boards, Timelines, Structures and Insight, and each row starts as the client view sets it: an item the view does not share is switched off and struck through. Switch off anything the client should not see, and switch on anything extra they need.

  2. For each board, choose Full access or one of the board's permission sets. A permission set limits the client to the tasks and columns it allows, such as only the conditions precedent their side delivers. See give the client access to their tasks.

  3. Whether the client can change a timeline or a structure also starts from the client view, and shows in each row's Allow editing: on everywhere for Standard client, off where the view is set to View only. For a client who mostly reads, choose such a view in step 3, then turn on Allow editing here for the timeline or structure they work in with you.

What the client does What to give them
Follows progress on the deal or the case A client view with timelines and structures View only
Ticks off their own conditions precedent Full access or a permission set on that board
Corrects the group chart with you The structure, with Allow editing on
Should not see your internal work Switch off the internal boards, the draft timeline and the issues list

Send the invitation

  1. Click Share. The client receives an email with a link to the matter, and signs in with a one-time code sent to that address.

  2. To send the link yourself, for example in your own covering email, click Copy invitation link in the message that appears at the bottom of the screen after you share. It stays for a few seconds.

Tips from practice

  • Look before you invite. Use View as and Client to see the overview the client lands on before they do. See check what the client sees.
  • Changing what a client has. Share again with the same email address and your new choices. Juristic updates their access to each item rather than inviting them twice, and sends them a new invitation email.
  • Boards you do not manage. A client only gets the boards you manage; the others are left out of the share. Leave those boards as they are under Advanced, because changing one makes Juristic refuse the share, and ask the board's manager to share it with the client.
  • Colleagues are not clients. To bring in someone from your own firm, use Share and Internal instead: see bring your team into the matter.

Before this: decide what clients see on a matter. Next: give the client access to their tasks, and later review and end outside access.
