Change the review chain during a review
A reviewer added, renamed or reassigned while the screening runs, with the steps already reviewed left as they were decided.
Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.
The screening for the board minutes of Beta Holding A/S is under way when the partner asks for tax to look at it too, or the associate on the second step goes on leave. The review chain has to change while the review runs, without disturbing the approvals already given.
You change the chain from the screening itself, if you created it. Two questions decide what to do. Has the reviewer you want to change already reviewed? And where in the chain does the new review belong: before someone who has not seen it yet, or at the end?
Add a reviewer to the chain
Open the screening. The review chain runs across the top: the upload step, each review step with its reviewer's initials, and the step the review is waiting on highlighted.
Find the place for the new review. Hover over the line between two steps and click the + that appears (Add review step here). To add the review last, click the dashed + marked Add step at the end of the chain.
A new step can only go after the last step anyone has reviewed, approved or sent back, so that it still gets its turn. Between two approved steps no + appears.
In Add New Review Step, check the line at the top: it says which two steps the new one goes between, or that it becomes the last review step.
Give it a Review Title that says what the review is for ("Tax review", "Partner sign-off"), choose the reviewer under Assigned To, and click Create Step. The steps after it move one place along.
You can also add a step at the end from Screening configuration, top left, with Add New Review Step.
Rename or reassign a step
Hover over a step that nobody has reviewed yet. Two icons appear under it.
Click the pencil, Change review step. The form opens with the step's current title and reviewer.
Change the Review Title or choose another reviewer under Assigned To, and click Save.
Remove a step
Hover over a step that nobody has reviewed yet and click the bin, Delete review step.
Confirm with Delete review step. The step is taken out of the review process.
What you cannot change
An approved step is the record of a decision, so it stays as it was approved. The pencil and the bin do not appear under it, and no + appears between two approved steps.
A step that was sent back is a decision too. The pencil and the bin still show under it, but Juristic refuses to rename, reassign or delete it, and the same happens if someone approves a step while you are changing it: "A step that has already been reviewed cannot be renamed or reassigned."
| What happened | What to do |
|---|---|
| A new specialist must review before the partner signs off | Add a step in front of the partner's step, while the partner's step is still waiting |
| The reviewer on a pending step is away | Rename or reassign that step |
| A review is no longer needed and nobody has reviewed it | Delete the step |
| A step was approved too soon | Leave the chain as it is. The reviewer of the next step can send the screening back to it, which reopens it; see revise and resubmit after changes are requested |
Tips from practice
- Add the step before the review reaches that point. Once the step after it has been approved, the gap is behind a decision and the new review would never get its turn.
- Name steps after the review, not the person. "Tax review" still reads correctly when the step is reassigned; "Review by Anna Lambda" does not.
- The record keeps up. A change of reviewer appears in the screening's activity log, beside the approvals, so the record shows who the step passed to and when.
- An absent reviewer does not always need replacing. If they have given a mandate, the step can be approved on their behalf instead: see approve on behalf of an absent reviewer.
Setting up the chain in the first place is in send a document for four-eyes review. When every step is approved, file the record of a completed review.
