Decide what clients see on a matter

The overview clients land on, and client views that set what each kind of client gets when you share.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.

Not every client should see the same thing. On a financing, the lender follows the conditions precedent but not your internal timetable; the client's board sees the group chart but not the issues list. Before you invite anyone, decide once what each kind of client gets, so that every invitation starts from the right place.

Two things decide this. What do clients land on when they open the matter? That is the matter's Client layout. Which tools are shared with them, and can they edit? That is a client view, which you pick each time you share.

Set the overview clients land on

  1. Open the matter and click Edit matter layout at the top of its overview. Only the matter's Managers see it.

  2. Click the Client tab. This is the overview every client on the matter lands on. Add the widgets they need with Add widget, remove the ones they do not with Remove widget, and click Done.

Adding a dashboard widget here shows the client the whole dashboard, and Juristic warns you when you do. Leave dashboards off the client's overview unless all of it is for them.

Create a client view

  1. Still in the layout editor, click the plus at the end of the tabs (New client view). Name it after the kind of client, such as "Lender" or "Board of Beta Holding A/S", and click Create.

  2. Under Default access when this view is shared, set what a client invited with this view gets. Your changes are saved as you make them.

    Tool Choices
Boards Full access or Do not share
Timelines Do not share, View only or Allow editing
Structures Do not share, View only or Allow editing
Insights Share insights by default, on or off

A new view starts with every board shared in full, timelines and structures View only, and insights shared.

  3. To rename the view or add a description, click the pencil (Rename / description). To remove it, click Delete view.

Views for each kind of client

Who it is for Boards Timelines Structures
The lender on a financing Full access, then narrow to their board when you share Do not share Do not share
The client's board, before a meeting Do not share View only View only
In-house counsel working with you Full access Allow editing Allow editing

Use the view when you share

  1. When you invite a client under Share and External, pick the view in Client view. The list holds the matter's own views and the ones from its group and your organisation. Standard client gives full access to everything. See give the client access to the matter.

Views for every matter in a group

  1. To give every matter in a client group the same views, open the group and click Edit matter layout. You are now in the Group layout, and the views you create there are offered on all the group's matters. Only the group's Managers can do this.

  2. A view that comes from the group or the organisation shows Inherited from group or Inherited from organisation on the matter, and its settings are greyed out. Change it where it was made, or create a new view on the matter for this one.

Tips from practice

  • Defaults, not limits. A client view decides where each invitation starts. When you share, Advanced still lets you switch items off, pick a board's permission set or allow editing for that one client.
  • Firm-wide views. If the same kinds of client come up on every matter, ask your admins to set up the firm's standard client views once.
  • Check the result. Use View as and Client to see the client's overview before anyone is invited: check what the client sees.

Next: give the client access to the matter.
