Link each event to its evidence

Every event traceable to its source document, with a list showing where each document is used.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.

When counsel asks "where does that come from?", the answer should be one click away. Linking each event to the documents behind it turns the chronology into an index of the evidence: every fact points to the letter, email or minutes that proves it, and every document shows which events rest on it.

Two questions guide the linking. Which document is the event taken from? That is its source. And which other documents support or mention it? Those go on the event as well, so nothing is lost when the chronology is checked or challenged.

Add documents to an event

  1. Open the event. On the timeline, point at the event and click the Edit pencil above it; in Table, click More at the start of its row.

  2. Click the Documents tab in the event panel.

  3. Add the documents behind the event:

    • Add an existing document finds a document that is already in the case. Start typing its name and pick it.
    • Upload a document adds a new one From computer, or from iManage, SharePoint or NetDocuments when your firm has connected them.
    • Drop files on the tab to upload them on the spot.

Uploading from the event panel works on the timeline, in Linear or Relative. In Table, upload through the row's Documents cell instead: click it to add or upload a document, or drop a file on it.

  4. Click More actions on the document the event is taken from and choose Mark as source document. It moves to the top under Source, and the other documents are listed under Other documents. An email's attachments are listed under it.

  5. Click Save.

Read the document beside the event

When a document on the event can be shown in Juristic, the event panel opens it beside the event's fields, with a tab for each document. Click a document's card to show it.

  1. To check the event against the source, read the passage beside the date and title you have written.

  2. To add an event you find in the document, select its text and choose New event from selection. A new event opens with the selected text as its title and the document marked as its source; add the date and save it.

  3. Click Open on a document's card to open the document on its own, beside every event that uses it. On the timeline, when both kinds are there, the list is split into Extracted from this document, for the events created from it, and Linked to this document, for the events it was added to. Select text there and choose Add event to create an event from the passage.

See where each document is used

  1. Click the documents button in the second row of the toolbar. Pointing at it shows the five most-used documents and See all; clicking it opens the Documents list.

  2. Read the list. Every document on an event is there, the most-used first, with the number of events it is on. Click a document to see the events that use it.

  3. Use Show to open a document and Download to save a copy. Delete deletes the document itself, from every event it is on, so use it only for a document that should not be in the case at all.

Tips from practice

  • One source per event. Mark the document the event comes from, and add the rest as supporting documents. When the chronology is challenged, the source is the one you produce first.
  • Check the sources before the chronology goes out. In Table, sort by the Documents column: the events with no document come first. See check and correct the chronology in a table.
  • Send the documents with the chronology. The PDF export can take every document behind the events along in a folder; see present the case chronology.
