Give the Word add-in the firm's templates and house style
The firm's precedents and its reference style document available to every lawyer in the Word add-in.

Lawyers start engagement letters, board minutes and standard agreements from whatever they find on the shared drive, and drafts from the other side arrive in someone else's fonts. The Juristic add-in for Word solves both, once it knows the firm's documents: its Templates workflow opens the firm's approved precedents, and Apply Company Style reformats a draft to the firm's house style. As an organisation admin, or in document services, you give it both here.
Two questions decide what you upload. Which precedents should every lawyer start from? And which document shows the firm's house style at its best?
Add the firm's templates
Open Admin panel from your user menu, and under Templates choose Word plugin.
Drag the precedents, as .docx or .doc files, from your computer onto the Templates card and drop them. You can drop several at once. Each appears as a row with its Title and Description.
Give each template a Title a lawyer will recognise in a list, such as "Engagement letter, corporate" or "Board minutes, Danish ApS". The title starts as the file name, .docx and all, and it is what lawyers see and search for in the add-in, so tidy it up. Under Description, note what the template is for and when to use it. Both are saved when you click out of the field.
Upload the house style document
The CVI Document is the firm's reference document: the add-in takes the fonts, margins and styles from it when a lawyer reformats a draft with Apply Company Style. The card is only there when you have access to the Word CVI Plugin module; see add a product to the firm's subscription if it is missing.
Choose a document that uses every style the firm cares about: body text, each heading level, definitions, quotes, numbered clauses. A recent, carefully formatted opinion or agreement from the firm's own template works better than an empty template, because the styles are in use.
Drag the file onto the CVI Document card and drop it. Its name appears on the card in place of No document uploaded.
The firm has one house style document at a time. To replace it, delete the current one with the bin on the card, then drop the new one.
Keep the list current
- Delete outdated templates with the bin on their row, and confirm with Delete. A superseded precedent left in the list will be used.
- Download a template with the arrow on its row to change it in Word. Upload the corrected file, give it the same title, and delete the old row, so lawyers see one version.
- Check the list after a precedent changes. Lawyers who already have the add-in open can refresh their list with Update list beside the Templates heading.
| What the firm needs | What to upload | Where |
|---|---|---|
| New documents in the firm's form | Approved precedents: letters, minutes, standard agreements | Templates |
| Drafts from the other side reformatted | One reference document in the firm's house style | CVI Document |
Tell the lawyers
Let the lawyers know the add-in is ready. In Word they click Juristic Assistant on the Home tab, then Workflows:
- Templates lists the firm's templates; clicking one opens it as a new, untitled document.
- Apply Company Style reformats a draft to the house style. Lawyers only see it with access to the Word CVI Plugin module, and it stays greyed out until a CVI Document has been uploaded.
The lawyers' side is in start a document from a firm template in Word and put a document into the firm's house style. If the add-in is not installed yet, start with roll out the Word and PowerPoint add-ins.
Tips from practice
- Fewer, better templates. A list of eight current precedents gets used; a list of eighty gets ignored. Leave the rarely used ones on the document management system.
- Name templates the way lawyers search. Lawyers filter the list by typing part of the title, so lead with the kind of document: "Engagement letter" before "corporate".
- Strip the last matter out of a precedent. Check every template for names, dates and amounts from the deal it came from before you upload it; a lawyer opening it should find placeholders, not another client's details.
- Test the house style on a real draft. After uploading the CVI Document, run Apply Company Style on a draft from another firm and read the result before you announce it.
For the firm's other templates, see give binders the firm's Word template and add the firm's slides to PowerPoint exports.
