Review a set of contracts in a table

An insight with one row per contract and one column per question, each answer with the reasoning behind it.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.

The data room holds eighty supplier contracts, and for each one the client needs the same answers: is there a change of control clause, which law governs it, when does it end, and how can it be terminated. An insight puts the contracts in rows and your questions in columns, and JuristIQ reads every contract and answers every question, with its reasoning, in a table you can sort, filter and check.

Two questions shape the review. What exactly do you need to know about each contract? Every column is one question. And what form should the answer take? A yes or no, a date or an amount can be sorted and filtered; a paragraph can only be read.

Insight is a product your firm adds to its subscription. If it is not among your tools, ask your firm's administrator.

Open the insight in the matter

  1. Open the matter and click Create new in the Insight box.

  2. In Name your Insight, give it a Name the team will recognise, such as "Project Alpha: supplier contracts", and click Save. The insight opens as an empty table.

An insight started from outside a matter opens as a draft, with Save as at the top left. Click it to name the insight and choose the matter it belongs to.

Add the contracts

  1. Click Add documents and choose where they come from: From computer, or iManage, SharePoint or NetDocuments when your firm has connected them. PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, emails and images can all go in.

  2. Each document becomes a row. As it is read, the Document column shows its title, Category says what kind of document it is, and Information gives a short description. Sort or filter by Category to set aside anything that is not a contract.

  3. If some rows are left without a category, click Reassess missing documents above the table. If an upload fails, Failed uploads appears there too, with the files to try again.

Ask a question in each column

  1. Click the plus at the right end of the header row (Add column) and choose Write a new question. Questions you have saved before are listed there too; click one to add it as it is.

  2. Under Read the document, write the question in What do you want to know about each document?, for example "Does the contract contain a change of control clause that gives the supplier a right to terminate or renegotiate?" Click Continue. Decide from other columns is for a judgement drawn from answers already in the table; see decide a review question from the facts.

  3. If the question can be read more than one way, JuristIQ asks at Clarify which you mean, and where it could search the documents, shows how many match each reading. Pick the reading, or describe it yourself under Something else, and click Continue.

  4. At Check, look over the Question, the Label it will have as a header and the Column type. Click Test on 3 documents to see the answer and reasoning for three of the contracts. If the answers are off, change the question here and test again.

  5. Leave Save this question to my column library ticked if the question will be useful on the next deal, and click Add column.

Choose the column type for what you will do with the answers:

The question Column type What it gives you
Is there a change of control clause? Yes / No A column you can filter to the contracts that need consent
When does the term end? Date Expiry dates that sort in order, in the Date format you choose
What is the annual contract value? Currency Amounts with their currency
Which law governs it? Short answer A few words per contract
How can the customer terminate? Long answer The provisions explained in sentences
What does the assignment clause say? Verbatim The exact wording, quoted from the contract
Which group companies are parties? List The names, separated by commas

Fill the table

  1. If the answers should be in a different language from your own, for example English answers on Danish contracts, pick it with the language button in the toolbar (Response language). Left alone, it follows your own language setting.

  2. Click Get Insights, choose what to analyse and click Start:

    • Analyse missing cells fills the cells that are not analysed yet, such as a new column or new documents.
    • Analyse missing and not found cells also tries again where nothing was found.
    • Analyse all cells (overrides current content) answers everything again. Use it after changing a question, knowing that it replaces the answers already there.

  3. Point at a cell and click the eye to open the row's answers in the side panel, each with its Reasoning. That is where you check an answer before relying on it.

  4. To bring a colleague in, click Share at the top right. An insight is shared inside the firm only; it cannot be shared with anyone outside.

Tips from practice

  • One question, one answer. "Is there a change of control clause?" and "What does it require?" make two clean columns. A question that asks both makes a column that cannot be filtered.
  • Test before you run. Read the three test answers, and then a sample of the table, before trusting a column across eighty contracts.
  • Scanned contracts. If some documents have no readable text, Get Insights offers to OCR scan them first; see make scanned documents searchable.
  • Keep the questions. Questions saved to your column library are there to add on the next deal; see reuse a review grid on the next deal.

Once the table is full, check and sign off the review cell by cell. To hand the findings to the client, see hand the review over in Excel.
