Find an event in a long chronology

The event you need found and shown, wherever the match was: title, note, tag, person or document.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.

The chronology has grown to hundreds of events, and on a call with the client or halfway through a draft you need the one where the guarantee was first mentioned. Scrolling will not find it in time.

Search the timeline when you know a word that is in the event or its documents. Switch to the table when you would rather scan for it.

Search the timeline

  1. Click Search in the timeline toolbar and type a word or a name.

  2. Read where each result matched. The line under the event's title shows the matching text and, in brackets, where it was found: in title, in description, in internal note, tag, name of linked person, in document title or event date. Results with document content are matches inside the text of a document on the timeline.

  3. Click an event to go to it: the timeline zooms to the event on the canvas, or scrolls to its row in the table view.

Not every result is an event. A person opens their details and the events they are on, a document opens the document, and a tag opens the tag.

Scan the events in a table

When you would rather scan than search, switch the timeline to the table view. Every event is a row, so you can read down the list or narrow it with Filters. See check and correct the chronology in a table.

Which to use

You know Use
A word in the event, its note or a document Search
Who was involved Search for the name, or filter by the person (see track who was involved in each event)
Roughly when it happened Filters, with Dates set From and To
The issue it belongs to The tag, under Filters

Tips from practice

  • Search follows the filter. Events that the current filter or story hides do not come up. If you are sure an event is there, switch to All events or click Clear all in Filter events, and search again.
  • Scanned documents. A scan has no text to search until it has been made searchable. See make scanned documents searchable.
  • Search for the document, not the phrase. A word from the document title brings up the events that rely on it, which is quicker than guessing how the event was worded.

If you keep searching for the same issue, give it a tag instead: see tag events by issue.
