Turn a Word checklist into a board

A board whose task groups and tasks follow the Word document's headings, tables and lists, with columns matched.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.

The lender's counsel has sent the conditions precedent checklist in Word, or the other side has circulated the closing agenda, or the client's memo sets out the steps. You want it as a working board for Project Alpha, without typing every line in again. JuristIQ reads the document and proposes a board: headings become task groups, and table rows and list items become tasks. You check the proposal before anything is added.

Two questions decide how you set it up. Is the document's structure the one you want to work in? If not, say so in the instructions. And which of its columns does the team need to track? Those you map to board columns; the rest you skip.

Upload the document

  1. Open the board, click Board in the toolbar and choose Import.

  2. Choose the Word tab, then click Upload files and pick the .docx, or drag it into the panel.

  3. Under Extra instructions, tell JuristIQ how you want the board built, in the words you would use with a trainee. For example: "One group per heading in the CP schedule. Put the responsible party in its own column. Leave out the signature blocks."

  4. Click Continue. The proposal is built in the background, and the panel shows what it is doing as it reads the document and finds groups and tasks.

You do not have to wait. Close the dialog and carry on working: a notification tells you when the proposal is ready, with a Review button. Until then the board shows the import at the top with View progress, and AI imports in the menu under your avatar lists every import you have running or waiting.

Review the proposal

  1. When the proposal is ready, click Review in the notification or in the banner at the top of the board. The banner says that nothing is added to the board until you approve it.

  2. In Map columns, decide where each column of the document goes. The document is shown on the left; hover a row to find it there. For each column choose:

    • Task title, for the column that names the step
    • one of the board's existing columns, where the board already tracks it. Columns with the same name are matched for you.
    • + Create new column, and choose its type after as: a date for the deadline, a person for the responsible lawyer, a status for where it stands
    • Skip, for what the team does not need on the board

Each line shows how sure JuristIQ is: Confident, Review or Low. Look hardest at the ones marked Low.

  3. Click Continue. Ready to import shows how many new groups, tasks and columns the import will add.

  4. Click Import to board. If some values do not fit the column they are mapped to, for example free text such as "on signing" in a date column, Some values will be skipped lists them. Click Back to columns and map that column to a text column to keep them, or Import anyway to leave those cells empty.

  5. Check the board against the document: the numbering, the groups and the last items in each section. Then add owners and dates where the document did not have them.

If you close the review after changing the mapping, Juristic asks before discarding your changes. The proposal itself stays on the board to review later. To drop it, click Dismiss in the banner.

What to put in the instructions

The document Worth saying in Extra instructions
CP checklist from the lender's counsel One group per part of the schedule; a column for the responsible party and one for status
Closing agenda One group for pre-closing, one for closing and one for post-closing; keep the document references
The client's memo of steps One task per numbered step; ignore the background section

Tips from practice

  • Tidy the document first. Clear headings and real tables give JuristIQ a structure to follow. A checklist laid out with tabs and bold text leaves more to guess, so check the groups more carefully afterwards.
  • Owners and dates come afterwards. A checklist from the other side names parties, not your team. Assign the work on the board once it is in: see assign and follow up the work.
  • Map to the board's columns where you can. A board set up from the firm's template already has the columns the team reports on. Mapping into them keeps every deal reporting the same way: see choose what to track on each task.
  • One document per import. For a second schedule, run the import again on the same board.
