Clip part of the chronology for a memo
An image, PDF or slide of one episode of the facts, with a legend of the tags inside it.
Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.
You are drafting a memo, a brief or an email, and one episode of the facts would be clearer as a picture: the week the contract fell apart, or the exchange of notices before termination. The snipping tool takes the part of the timeline you frame and saves it as an image, a PDF or a slide.
One question decides the format: where is the picture going?
Clip the timeline
Open the timeline in the Linear or Relative view and bring the episode onto the screen. If the time between the events matters, use the Relative view.
Click Export in the toolbar and choose Snipping tool. A frame appears over the timeline, and everything outside it is shaded.
Move the timeline under the frame as you normally would, and drag the frame's edges to fit it around the events you need. The frame stays where it is while the timeline moves.
Click JPG, PDF or PPTX to save the framed part. In the bottom left corner of the clip, a legend lists each tag on the events in the frame, with its colour and name.
To close the frame without saving, click Cancel or press Esc.
Which format for which use
| Where it is going | Format |
|---|---|
| The body of an email, or pasted into a memo in Word | JPG |
| An annex or an attachment | PDF: one page the size of the frame, in landscape when the frame is wider than it is tall |
| A slide in the client's deck | PPTX: a PowerPoint slide with the clip on it |
Tips from practice
- Show only the issue. Click the tab of the story for the issue before you clip, so the events from other issues are not in the picture.
- Frame tight, with room at the bottom. The legend lists only the tags on the events in the frame, so a tight frame keeps it short. It sits over the bottom left corner of the clip, so leave a little space below the events for it.
- Check what the clip shows. A picture travels further than the email it was sent in. Leave out events the reader should not see.
