Revise and resubmit after changes are requested

The revised version uploaded and put back through review, with the version history kept.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.

You sent the draft share purchase agreement for Project Alpha through a screening, and a reviewer has sent it back to the start with a list of changes. Now you make them, upload the revised version and put it back into review, so the reviewers see what changed and the file keeps every version they were shown.

Two questions decide how you resubmit. Does the reviewer need to see a new version, or did they misread the one they had? And should the review continue, or begin again from scratch?

See what was asked for

  1. Open the screening. The Changes requested banner names the reviewer who sent it back and quotes their reason after Reason:.

  2. Read the reason, and open the activity log beside the review if the reviewer left more than one comment along the way.

  3. Below the banner, the upload step says Screening rejected. Reupload with requested changes. If a different step is showing, click Go to upload.

If the reviewer sent it Back to the reviewer before them instead, the work does not come to you: the earlier reviewer fixes it and approves again, and there is no banner on your screen.

Upload the revised version

  1. Find the document under Primary documents and click Upload a new version on its row, then choose the revised file.

  2. The row now carries a versions count, and clicking its name opens the new version. The original and every earlier version stay listed under Document versions, so a reviewer can open the draft they commented on beside the revision.

  3. If the reviewer asked for something new, such as a disclosure letter that was not there before, drag it onto Primary document or Attachments instead. Those add separate documents to the screening.

Put it back into review

Choose one of the buttons under the upload step.

  • Submit and send back puts the revised documents back into review, recorded in the activity log as resubmitted with the requested changes. The send back withdrew the approvals of everyone before the reviewer who objected, so the review continues from the first reviewer whose step is open.
  • Start Over resets every review step and runs the workflow again from the beginning, after a confirmation that tells you no documents will be deleted. Use it when the revision is so substantial that the review should begin afresh.

If you press Submit and send back without having uploaded anything since the send back, Juristic asks Return without changes? first. Click Confirm return only when you are deliberately sending the same documents back, for example because the reviewer misread a clause and you have explained it to them.

The third button, Submit and approve, approves the objecting reviewer's step in their place; see Approve on behalf of an absent reviewer.

Which to choose

The situation What to do
You made the changes the reviewer asked for Upload a new version, then Submit and send back
The reviewer asked for an additional document Add it under Primary document or Attachments, then Submit and send back
The reviewer misread the draft and nothing needs to change Submit and send back, then Confirm return, after explaining it to them
The deal has moved and the document has been rewritten Upload a new version, then Start Over

Tips from practice

  • Never upload a revision as a new primary document. It breaks the version history, and the reviewers end up with two documents to approve. Upload a new version keeps the drafts in one row.
  • Answer every point. Tell the reviewer how you dealt with each point in their reason, by email or in the document itself, so the next round is a check rather than a second review.
  • Keep the file names telling. A version named after its draft number and date ("SPA Project Alpha v3 2026-10-13") is easier to find in the version list than three files called "SPA final".

How the reviewer handles the next round is in Review and approve a document in a screening. If the review chain itself needs changing, see Change the review chain during a review.
