Discuss a draft with the team
A comment thread where the work is, with the right people mentioned and notified.

The draft chronology is ready for the team's eyes, or the step plan needs the tax colleague's view before it goes to Beta Holding A/S. Questions about a draft get lost in email threads that half the team is not on. A comment on the work itself keeps the discussion beside the draft, and a mention brings in the colleague who has to answer.
Two questions decide where you write. Is the comment about the draft as a whole, or one point on it? And can the client read it? On a task board the client may be on the matter; on a structure or timeline, the comment log is for the team.
Comment on a structure or timeline
Open the structure or timeline and click the speech bubble at the top right, beside the history icon and Share. On a structure that shows a ribbon of tabs, they are under Collaborate. The Comment Log opens at the side; a red number on the speech bubble counts the comments.
Type your comment. To bring a colleague in, type @ and the first letters of their name, then pick them from the list. Only people on the matter can be mentioned; if the colleague is not on it, share the work with them first, see share your work with a colleague.
Press Enter, or click the send arrow, to post it. Shift+Enter starts a new line. With nothing typed, the button sends a thumbs-up instead, a quick way to agree with the comment above.
To remove a comment of yours, point at it, click More (the three dots) and choose Delete. The team sees This message was removed. in its place.
Answer when you are mentioned
When a colleague mentions you, the speech bubble on that structure or timeline tells you You were mentioned, or how many mentions there are, the next time you open it.
On the home page, click You were mentioned to see every place you were mentioned, across your matters. Click a row to open the work and answer in its comment log.
A mention is not sent by email. If the colleague has to act today, share the work with them as well: the share email carries your comment and a link.
Comment on one point on a structure
When the question is about one box or line on the chart, pin the comment to that spot on the canvas instead, so it sits beside what it is about. Delete the thread when the point is settled. See get a colleague's comments on the chart.
Comment on a task
On the task board, open the task: click the speech bubble beside its name.
Write on Updates for the conversation everyone on the task can follow, including the client if they have access to the board. Type @ to mention a colleague.
Write on Internal updates for what stays within the firm: the team's view of the other side's draft, a fee point, a note on the client's instructions. Clients, and anyone else restricted to a permission set, cannot open Internal updates.
See assign and follow up the work for keeping a task's status and updates current.
Where to put the discussion
| What you want to discuss | Where |
|---|---|
| The structure or chronology as a whole: scope, approach, what is missing | The Comment Log on the structure or timeline |
| One box, holding or line on the chart | A comment pinned on the canvas |
| An open question about one event in the chronology | Flag it on the event, see flag open questions in the chronology |
| One item on the deal checklist, with the client following | Updates on the task |
| One item on the deal checklist, for the team only | Internal updates on the task |
Tips from practice
- Mention by name, ask one thing. "@Anna Lambda, is the share transfer in step 3 before or after the dividend?" gets an answer; a comment to no one in particular waits.
- Put the answer in the draft. The comment log is the discussion, the structure or chronology is the record. Make the change in the work, then say in the comment that it is done.
- Check who reads Updates. If the client is on the board, assume they read Updates. Anything for the team goes on Internal updates.
- Work through your mentions. The You were mentioned list shows every structure, timeline and task you were mentioned on, newest first, whether you have answered or not; see catch up on what needs you.
