Decide who administers Juristic
A small, named set of Administrators, everyone else as User.
Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.
Administrators decide how Juristic works for the whole firm: who has a user, which templates every board and binder starts from, where the firm's AI runs. That is a job for a few named people, usually in IT, knowledge management or practice support, not for every partner who asks. Review the list when Juristic is rolled out and whenever someone in the role changes jobs.
One question decides each person's role: do they run the firm's settings?
The roles
| User type | Who it is for | What they can do |
|---|---|---|
| User | Every lawyer, trainee and assistant | Work in the matters they are on. No Admin panel |
| Administrator | The people who run Juristic day to day | Everything in the Admin panel: users, templates, tool defaults, AI settings, integrations, branding, data retention and the Audit log |
If your organisation needs Super Admin roles, contact Juristic support.
See who has admin rights today
Open the Admin panel from your user menu or the foot of the sidebar, and choose Users under Access & Security.
Set User type to Administrator. The list shows everyone with admin rights.
Make someone an Administrator
Find the person, click Edit (the pencil) in their row, choose Administrator under User type, and click Save.
You can edit the names, initials and Access of other Administrators, but not change their role. To take the role from another Administrator, ask them to step down, or contact Juristic support.
Stepping down yourself? Open your own row with Edit, choose User and click Save. Juristic asks Change your own role? first, because you lose your admin rights at once and only someone else can give them back. Click Confirm only when another Administrator is in place.
Check what changed
- Every role change is recorded as User role changed in the Audit log, with who made it and when. See check the firm's audit trail.
Tips from practice
- Keep it small and named. Two or three Administrators cover most firms. Fewer people with admin rights means fewer people who can change every board's template by mistake.
- Always two. Have at least two Administrators, so that holidays or a departure never leave the firm without someone who can add users or change settings.
- Admin rights are not matter access. An Administrator sees the firm's settings, not its client files. They open a matter only when someone on it adds them.
- When an administrator leaves. Make their successor an Administrator before you offboard them.
Before this: bring a whole team into Juristic. Next: offboard a lawyer who leaves the firm.
