Report deal progress on a dashboard

A dashboard of charts and tables over the deal's boards, shared with the partner or the client.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.

On a deal with several workstreams, the partner does not want to open every board to see where things stand. A dashboard puts the answer on one page: how much of the checklist is done, who has the most outstanding, what is still open. It reads the boards live, so it is never out of date the way a sent report is.

Two questions decide how you set it up. Is it about one matter, or several? And who will look at it: the deal team, or the client too?

Create the dashboard

  1. Click Dashboards in the sidebar and click New dashboard.

  2. Give it a title the reader recognises, such as "Project Alpha: closing status", and a description if it helps.

  3. Under Where does this dashboard live?, choose where it belongs. This also decides which boards it can read and who sees it.

    • Inside a matter: for one deal. The cards read the boards in that matter, and the people with access to the matter see the dashboard. Choose the matter under Choose a matter.
    • Inside a project board: for one board, such as the CP checklist. The cards read only that board, and anyone with access to the board sees the dashboard. Choose the board under Choose a project board.
    • Organisation-wide: for a view across deals, such as every matter in a practice group. You choose the boards yourself and share the dashboard with colleagues one by one.
  4. Click Create. The dashboard opens, empty.

Connect the boards

A dashboard inside a matter or a project board already knows its boards. An organisation-wide one needs them connected.

  1. Click Connect boards to start.

  2. Tick the groups or matters whose boards the dashboard should read. A group includes every matter in it, including matters added later; a matter includes only that matter's boards. Click Connect.

The button then shows how many boards are connected; click it again to change them.

Add the cards

  1. Click Add widget, or Add your first card on an empty dashboard. Add Card opens with the card types on the left. Statuses, assignees, priorities, labels and dropdowns are offered when the connected boards have columns of that kind.

  2. Click a card to see a preview with example data. Choose the Chart type, the Data source (one board, or All connected boards) and how the values are shown and sorted. Click Add Card.

  3. Drag and resize the cards in Edit mode, then switch to View to see the dashboard as the reader will. Each card's Settings let you change its display, sorting and styling after you have added it.

Cards that work on a deal:

The question Card
How far is the deal from closing? Status Battery, a bar of the checklist split by status in the board's own colours
Where is each item in the process? Status Breakdown (Bar) or Task Count by Status
Who has the most outstanding? Workload by Assignee
Which items are still open? Data Table, filtered to the statuses that are not done
What has the team said lately? Latest Comments
What should the reader know first? Rich Text, for a short note to the reader

Share it

How you share depends on where the dashboard lives.

  • Inside a matter or a project board: there is nothing to share separately, and the dashboard says that its sharing is managed via its matter or project board. To give someone access, give them access to the matter or board; see bring your team into the matter.

  • Organisation-wide: click Invite and add the colleagues who should see it. People you invite can also add and change cards, so keep the list to the people you trust with the layout.

Show the dashboard on the board

The team works in the board, not on the dashboard. Put the dashboard where they already are.

  1. On the board, click Add view and choose Connected Dashboards.

  2. The view lists every dashboard that reads this board, under Used in dashboards. As a manager of the board, switch between Cards and Dashboard to see the cards on their own or one dashboard in full, and click Create dashboard to start a new one that reads this board.

People who do not manage the board see only the Dashboard mode in this view, with no Cards switch and no Create dashboard.

Tips from practice

  • One dashboard per audience. The partner wants the whole deal; the client wants their own deliverables. Make two dashboards rather than one that tries to serve both.
  • Check before a dashboard goes on the client's matter overview. The matter overview has a Dashboard widget. Added to the layout a client sees, it shows the client the full dashboard, not only what their own access would let them see. Agree with the team what is on the dashboard before it goes there; see set up the matter's front page.
  • Set the refresh. In a closing meeting, set Refresh interval to 5m so the dashboard keeps up as items are ticked off. The refresh button next to it updates it at once.

When the client wants a document rather than a page to look at, see send the client a status report in Word. To find the open items to act on, see find what is outstanding before closing.
