Choose where the firm's AI runs

The firm's AI provider switched to the one risk and compliance have approved as a data processor.

Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.

You administer Juristic for the firm, and risk, compliance or IT has asked which AI provider handles the firm's documents. One setting answers most of that for the whole organisation: the provider that powers the AI features in Juristic, such as JuristIQ and the AI chat in each tool.

One question decides the choice. Which provider has the firm already approved as a data processor for client data? Changing provider adds a new data processor, so the decision belongs with the people who sign off on processors, not with the admin alone.

Agree the choice first

  1. Before you change anything, take the decision to the people who own the firm's data processing: risk and compliance, IT, and the partner responsible for data protection. Changing provider adds the provider you choose as a data processor and may change where the firm's data is handled. Juristic is responsible only within the scope of the firm's existing data processing agreement.

  2. If you are unsure whether the new provider is covered, check with your Juristic customer success contact before you switch.

Change the provider

  1. Click Admin panel at the bottom of the sidebar, and under AI click Provider. The AI Provider page shows the provider the firm uses today.

  2. Under LLM Provider Settings, open LLM Provider and choose the provider the firm has agreed on: Azure OpenAI, Anthropic Claude or Juristic Local LLM.

  3. Click Save. The button only becomes active once you have chosen a different provider from the one in use.

  4. Read Change AI provider? before you confirm. It names the provider you are leaving and the one you are moving to, and reminds you that the new provider becomes a data processor. Click Yes, change provider to switch, or Cancel to leave things as they are.

  5. Tell the lawyers. A short note on what changed and why saves questions when they next use JuristIQ; see tell everyone in the firm about a change.

The three providers

Provider Worth knowing
Azure OpenAI The provider selected when nothing else has been chosen.
Anthropic Claude For a firm that has approved Anthropic as a processor and prefers Claude models.
Juristic Local LLM Juristic's own model. Where it runs is set out in the trust centre.

For Juristic's sub-processors and where they process data, see the trust centre. If the provider you want is not listed there, ask your Juristic customer success contact before you switch.

Tips from practice

  • Record the decision. Keep a note of who approved the change and when, with the firm's processor records. The change itself shows in the Audit log under Admin panel as Organisation settings updated, with who made it.
  • There is no field for the firm's own API key. The provider is chosen from the list above, and Juristic connects to it. If the firm needs something the list does not offer, raise it with your Juristic contact rather than with IT.
  • Insights tables stay on Azure OpenAI. Reading documents into the columns of an Insights table runs on Azure OpenAI whichever provider is selected here, so keep Azure OpenAI in the firm's processor records if the firm uses Insights.
  • Change it once, deliberately. Switching back and forth adds and removes processors each time. Agree the provider, switch once, and tell people.

Once the provider is settled, give the AI the firm's own conventions: see give JuristIQ the firm's standing instructions.
