Set what every matter overview shows
An organisation-wide matter overview for managers, users and clients, which groups and matters follow unless they set their own.
Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.
The matter overview is the first page anyone sees when they open a matter. As an admin, you decide what it shows across the firm, so every new matter opens with a front page that suits the person opening it: the working tools for the people running the matter and the lawyers on it, and a simpler page for the client.
Two questions decide the layout. What does each role come to a matter for? And what may a client see when a lawyer shares a matter with them?
Open the firm's layout
Open the Admin panel from the bottom of the navigation sidebar and go to Layouts.
Choose whose overview you are setting up with the tabs at the top: Manager for the people who run the matter, User for the lawyers working on it, Client for the clients it is shared with. Each role has its own layout.
Each tab starts from Juristic's standard layout for that role until you change it. The widgets show as previews, because the layout is not tied to one matter.
Add and arrange the widgets
Click Add widget. The Add a widget window groups the widgets by kind, such as Visualisation, Tasks & workflow, People and Resources, or you search for one by name. Click a widget to add it to the tab you are on.
Drag a widget to move it and drag its edges to resize it. The info icon says what a widget shows, and the cross (Remove widget) takes it off the layout.
Move on to the next tab and do the same. There is no save button: every change is saved as you make it, and every matter that follows the firm's layout shows it from then on.
How groups and matters follow it
Your layout is the starting point, not a lock. For each role, a matter shows the first layout it finds:
| Set on | Where | How to go back to the one above |
|---|---|---|
| The matter | Edit matter layout on the matter overview, for the matter's managers | Reset to default |
| The group | Edit matter layout on the group overview, for the group's admins | Clear on the Group layout page |
| The organisation | Layouts in the Admin panel | Clear |
| Juristic | Built in |
A group or matter that sets its own layout for one role still follows yours for the other roles. See set up the matter's front page for how lawyers change it on a single matter.
Start again from Juristic's layout
To drop the firm's layout altogether, click Clear at the top of the page. Juristic does not ask you to confirm. Every role goes back to Juristic's standard layout, for every group and matter that does not have its own.
A tab you leave without any widgets also falls back to Juristic's standard layout for that role, so no one ever opens a blank overview.
Tips from practice
- Keep the Client tab to what the client needs. Clients come to a matter for its status and its documents, not the team's working tools. Project management, Timeline and Documents cover most matters.
- Leave the Dashboard widget off the Client tab. It shows the client the whole dashboard, whatever they otherwise have access to, and Juristic warns you when you add one there. It also asks for a dashboard from one matter, so it belongs in a matter's own layout rather than the firm's.
- Keep Notes for the team. The Notes widget shows every note on the matter to whoever has it on their layout, so put it on the Manager and User tabs only.
- Set the practice group's layout on the group. If the deal teams and the litigators want different front pages, give each group its own layout and keep the firm's layout for what everyone shares.
- Different clients, different access. For clients who should see only part of a matter, set up the firm's standard client views.
