Check what the client sees
The matter previewed through the client's eyes before you invite them.
Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.
You are about to invite the client, or a colleague has set up the matter's overview for them. Before the client opens it, look at the matter the way they will: what is on the page they land on, and whether anything internal is showing.
The preview answers one question: is the client's overview right? Which boards, timelines and structures a particular client can open is decided when you share with them.
Preview the matter as a client
Open the matter and click View as at the top of its overview.
Choose Client. If you are a Manager on the matter, you can also choose User to see what colleagues who work on the matter see.
The overview now shows the matter's client layout, and the button reads Viewing as Client. Go through it as the client would: the widgets, their order, and what each one says. Buttons for creating new work are hidden, as they are for the client.
When you are done, click Viewing as and choose Stop previewing.
Fix what should not be there
A widget the client should not see, or one that is missing: click Edit matter layout, open the Client tab, change it and click Done. See decide what clients see on a matter.
A board, timeline or structure the client should not open: leave it out when you share. In Share matter with a client, choose a client view that does not share it, or switch it off under the Advanced switch. See give the client access to the matter.
Tips from practice
- The preview shows your matter, through the client's layout. The widgets list the matter's work as you see it. A client who was given only some boards or timelines sees only those.
- Tasks on a shared board. When the client sees a board through a permission set, open the board's permission set and use Preview as this set to see exactly which tasks and columns they get. See give the client access to their tasks.
- Check again after changes. A new widget on the Client tab reaches every client on the matter at once, including those invited months ago.
