Share a chart or chronology outside the firm
Co-counsel, an expert or the client given one structure or timeline through a personal link, view-only or editable.
Screenshots are taken from the app on every release. Updated 13 October 2026.
Co-counsel abroad needs the group chart to advise on the local steps. The expert wants the chronology before the first call. The client's general counsel asks to follow the structure as it changes. None of them needs the whole matter, and none of them should see the rest of it. Share the one structure or timeline with them, and they open it through a personal link.
Two questions decide how you share. Is this version fit for them to see? And should they change it, or only read it?
Before you share
- Share the right version. The reader sees the structure or timeline as it stands, with everything in it. If the master holds working notes or tags only the team understands, duplicate it and share the copy. See make a version of the chronology for another reader.
- It has to sit in a matter. On a group's own structures and timelines, Share is greyed out. File the work in the matter first.
Invite them
Open the structure or timeline and click Share in the top right corner. Under Choose how you want to share, choose External: "Share outside of your organisation".
On Invite, fill in their First name, Last name and Email. Phone (optional) can be left empty. An address that belongs to someone in your own organisation is refused ("This email belongs to your organisation. Please use internal sharing instead."): share with a colleague internally instead, see share your work with a colleague.
Tick Permit to make changes? only if they should edit. Leave it unticked and they can read but not change anything.
Click Share.
They receive an email with a link, and sign in with a one-time code sent to that address. They have access to this structure or timeline only, not to the rest of the matter. A message in the corner offers to copy the link, if you want to send it on yourself as well.
| Who it is for | Permit to make changes? |
|---|---|
| The client following the group chart | No |
| An expert reading the chronology | No |
| Co-counsel working on the structure with you | Yes |
See who has access
Click Share, choose External and open See invited. Invited users lists everyone you have shared it with. Point at the information icon beside a name to see when it was shared.
To end someone's access, click the bin beside their name.
Tips from practice
- One person, one invitation. Each link is personal and signs in with a code sent to that person's address. If a second person at the client needs it, invite them too rather than forwarding the email.
- Read-only by default. Give editing only to people who are working on it with you; a client following the chart does not need it.
- Not on a board. Task boards are shared with a permission set that decides what each person sees: see give the client access to their tasks.
- Tidy up when the work is done. See review and end outside access.
